Terms of Service
These Terms of Service govern your use of thinkbasal.com and the Basal mobile apps for iOS and Android.
Last updated April 7, 2026
Acceptance of These Terms
By accessing or using Basal, you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the service.
What Basal Is
Basal is a self-reflection tool that helps users explore thoughts and feelings through psychological and philosophical frameworks. It is not a healthcare service, mental-health provider, medical device, or emergency service.
Important Health Disclaimer
Basal does not provide diagnoses, treatment recommendations, crisis counseling, or clinical advice. AI-generated responses are for reflection only and may be incomplete, inaccurate, or inappropriate for your situation.
If you may be in danger, thinking about self-harm, or experiencing a mental health emergency, do not rely on Basal. Call emergency services immediately. In the United States, you can call or text 988 for the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.
Eligibility
You must be legally able to agree to these terms in your jurisdiction. If you are under the age of majority where you live, use Basal only with the involvement of a parent or legal guardian.
No Accounts; Device-Based Access
Basal does not currently use traditional user accounts. Instead, the app may generate a device-scoped identifier to support credit usage, subscriptions, and service operation. You are responsible for controlling access to your device and any data stored on it.
Subscriptions, Credits, and Billing
Some features may be limited by free credits or offered through a paid subscription. Billing and subscription infrastructure may be handled through Stripe and related service providers.
- Subscription status, plan details, and billing periods may be tied to your device-scoped identifier.
- Pricing, included credits, and feature limits may change over time.
- Unless required by law, fees are non-refundable once charged.
- You are responsible for any taxes, bank charges, or third-party fees associated with your purchase.
Your Content
You retain ownership of the thought text, feeling labels, and other content you submit to Basal. You give us a limited license to host, process, transmit, and use that content solely as needed to operate, secure, improve, and support Basal.
You must not submit content that is unlawful, infringes the rights of others, or is intended to abuse, attack, or disrupt the service.
Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- Use Basal for unlawful, harmful, or fraudulent purposes.
- Attempt to scrape, reverse engineer, interfere with, or overload the service.
- Use automated means to access the service in a way that could impair availability for others.
- Misrepresent your identity, payment information, or entitlement to use paid features.
AI Output and Service Availability
Basal relies on third-party AI and infrastructure providers. We do not guarantee that the service will always be available, uninterrupted, secure, or error-free, or that AI output will be accurate or suitable for any particular purpose.
We may modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of Basal at any time, including features, frameworks, pricing, quotas, or platform availability.
Intellectual Property
The Basal service, branding, design, software, website copy, and related materials are owned by Basal or its licensors and are protected by intellectual property laws. These terms do not transfer any ownership rights to you.
Termination
We may suspend or terminate access to Basal if we reasonably believe you violated these terms, abused the service, created legal risk, or interfered with other users or our systems.
You may stop using Basal at any time. Deleting the app removes local on-device data that has not otherwise been synced or exported.
Disclaimers and Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Basal is provided “as is” and “as available” without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, and accuracy.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Basal and its affiliates, officers, employees, contractors, and service providers will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, revenue, profits, goodwill, or business opportunity arising from or related to your use of Basal.
Changes to These Terms
We may update these terms from time to time. When we do, we will post the revised version here and update the effective date. Your continued use of Basal after the updated terms take effect means you accept the revised terms.
